Omiš

The town of Omiš is situated by the canyon of the river Cetina, where the river, having passed through one of Europe’s most beautiful canyons, meets the Adriatic Sea. Thanks to this interesting position and being surrounded by impressive mountain rocks, it looks as if it’s carved into the mountain.

The name of the town was first mentioned in the ancient times, but the most famous period in town’s history were undoubtedly the medieval times, precisely the 12th and 13th century when it was ruled by the Pirates of Omiš. The town’s fortresses Mirabela (Peovica) and Starigrad (Fortica) serve as a reminder of the famous pirate history. The fortress of Mirabela overlooks the whole town, while the view from the Fortica encompasses the entire Brač Channel, the islands of Brač, Hvar and Šolta, the Middle Poljica region and the mouth of the Cetina river.

Apart from its rich history, sandy beaches and beautiful panoramic views, the position of the town makes it a dream destination for adrenaline cravers.
